Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
Admission Requirements
Applicants should normally hold a master's degree or a bachelor's degree
with first or second class honours in engineering from Sydney University,
or an equivalent qualification from another university or institution.
Candidates without one of these qualifications will be required to undergo
a preliminary examination.
Application with a Master's Degree
If you hold a master's degree, you would normally be admitted to PhD candidature
for a probationary period of 12 months, during which time you would be
expected to demonstrate your capacity for research.
You should provide concise details of your proposed research program
including aims and methodology, and evidence of your ability to carry out
intensive research and advanced study at this level.
Application without a Master's Degree
If you do not have a master's degree you will normally be considered first
for admission to the ME (Res) degree. If you make satisfactory progress
you may be permitted, after 1-2 years, to transfer to PhD candidature with
credit for time spent and work done towards the ME (Res) degree. The Faculty
would not normally admit you directly to PhD candidature.
