Welcome to FEARC!
Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is the most powerful
simulation tool to model physical processes. It models the behaviour of
complex structure by dividing the whole structure into many finite bits with
simple internal behaviour. If there is an opportunity for improving a design
then somebody, somewhere ought to be doing so using Finite Elements.
The School of Aerospace, Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering is host to
the Finite Element Analysis Research Center (FEARC). This has become
national focus for research and development of this important generic
computational technology.
All new technical products from toothbrushes to oil platforms, to 1000-seat
aircraft, use Finite Element Analysis (FEA). Australia is an important user
and producer of technology of FEA. FEARC's role is to support this.
FEARC was opened in July 1992 and has the stated objectives of:
To serve as a national focus for
research in Finite Element Analysis.
To Foster industry/university
co-operation in furthering knowledge in the theory and application of FEA.
To undertake specialised research,
investigations and consultancies for industry and government organisations.
To promote and support industrial and
commercial usage of FEA software.
To enhance education in FEA for both
university students and professional engineers.
To foster inter-relationships with
other FEA research groups nationally and internationally.
