I think the most critical technology at this time is "see, detect, and avoid" technology used for collision avoidance and airspace management.
Reliability of UAVs is also an issues. Many UAVs have been lost in recent years due to reliability problems. Far more than manned aircraft.

: Depending on the useage, it invloves reliable enigne, radio control,two way data link (RF), instrumenation, like accelerometer, gyro (X, Y ,X axis)GPS for tracking and compass for heading calculation, pressure sensor for altitude calculation and microprocessor to manage all the related operations, servos are needed for controlling the control surfaces. Techo is needed for calculating engine rpm and some kind of control to remain the consatnt RPM for level altitude. If u need any more info please let me know at my email fakhre@rocketmail.com.
