: I am inquiring regarding if UAV's can now be utlised to conduct aerial patrols of powerlines. : Regular Powerline patrols are currently undertaken : by Power distribution utilities to identify defects on : power lines in rural & outback area : such as Faulty Insulators, Broken Wire strands : & Vegetation Infringing close to the lines. : Current aerial patrols are undertaken by regular fixed or rotary winged aircraft at approx 50knts between 50-100ft above ground level. : To conduct patrols in Australia a minimal operating range would have to be least 50km with an endurance of around 3-4 hours. : If someone could give me an indication of if a : UAV could be able to do the job. : If they have be utilised for this application. : What type : What is happings with CAA approvals to operate UAV's : capital start up costs & or lease arrangements : training costs & requirements : operating costs : Thanks : Regards : Kym
