cost of follow up repairs or software reinstallation for machines that have
been interfered with, will be charged to the account of the member of staff
or to that of the academic staff member supervising them.
2. Machines located in common areas will be allocated to
private range IP's unless there is a specific requirement for traffic
outside Sydnet for a particular research project. This applies particularly
to computers located in laboratories, or used just as printer, scanner, or
instrument servers.
3. Staff/Students should, as a general rule, use the internet for
specific school of AMME business in the their areas of research and or
teaching. The School Internet Services should not be used for personal or
inappropriate reasons. There will be explicit penalties for Internet usage
in the following areas,
Breech of this policy may lead to removal or restriction of internet access and in severe cases may lead to disciplinary action being taken by the school.
Access to the network will be limited for those machines performing excessively high network access requests , especially when this is not justified for research or teaching requirements. Academics and researchers should notify IT support staff if they plan to do excessively large data transfers from outside the university for research purposes. Failure to notify IT support may result in the download being blocked by the school's hacker detection systems.
The School of AMME reserves the right to
a) Terminate access for cases where there is a continuing breech of
these policies or/and apply full costs of repairs or reconfiguration to the
person causing the breech.
b) Halt, restrict or limit user access to information systems and to
inspect, copy, remove or alter any data, file or system resource that is
deemed to be detrimental to the authorized use of the school information
systems.

the school and university policies.
d) To vary or withdraw any service at any time without notice.
