Prof.   Roger Tanner was awarded the CENTENARY MEDAL by the Governor General. This distinctive medal marks the achievements at the commencement of a new century of a broad cross-section the Australian community including contribution to Australian Society. It is also worth noting that Professor Nhan Phan-Thien was also awarded this medal. Congratulations to Roger and Nhan on this well deserved and highly prestigious award.
Prof.   Roger Tanner has been elected FELLOW OF AMERICAN SOCIETY OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERS. This is a very prestigious and distinguished level of membership in recognition of Prof Tanner's international contributions to the field of Mechanical Engineering.
Prof.   Roger Tanner has been elected FELLOW OF THE ROYAL SOCIETY. This is a great achievement, an honour not just to Roger but to the School, Faculty and University. He is the first FRS ever in the Faculty of Engineering. The School held a function  to celebrate this occasion.
Prof. Roger Tanner was awarded the A.G.M. MICHELL medal by the institute of Engineers, Australia and has received the British Society of Rheology gold medal in 2000.
Dr. Lynne Bilston has been awarded THE VICE-CHANCELLOR'S SPECIAL AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING TEACHING.This is a great achievement which recognises the superior level of teaching of Lynne. It also rewards the significant and consistent efforts that Lynne has invested into her teaching methods. According to the Dean, this is the first time that Engineering has won such an award.
