Welcome to the University Of Sydney chapter of the AIAA. With over 30,000 members, the AIAA is the world's largest professional organisation devoted to the progress of engineering and science in aviation, space and defence. For over 65 years, it has been the most important voice and information resource for students, teachers, engineers and managers working in the aerospace industry, and will continue to be into the future.

The University Of Sydney student branch was the first AIAA student branch in Australia, and is committed to fostering interest and knowledge in aeronautics and astronautics. We also promote contact between our members and the aerospace industry. The branch has a rapidly-growing membership base, which is open to all students who have any interest in space or aviation (not just aero engineers!).

We hold and sponsor many events each year including field trips, site visits, competitions, guest speakers, and of course social functions. If this sounds good to you, don't be afraid to join, you will get a lot out of it and have a ball at the same time!

 
News & Events...

  • O-Week: This year, O-week was a great success, with 31 new members joining up. Everyone had a great day (even though the wind was a bit chilly)!
     
  • NEW T-Shirts: Congrats to Kai Lehmkeuhler who submitted the winning entry in last year's T-shirt competition. The new T-shirts will be available from O-week onwards (non-members: $18 members: $13)
     
  • 2008 AGM: Our AGM will be held on Tuesday week 2 in the Aero Lecture Theatre. Come vote for the 2008 committee and enjoy a video screening.
     
  • The Aerospace Resource Room (ground floor Aero Bldg) is now open on Tuesdays 1-2pm (and other times by appointment). We have a range of new aircraft magazines (Air International, Aviation Australia etc.), plus lots of other info on aircraft including flight manuals. Come and take a look!
     
  • TBA: Speaker - Michael West, Space Plasma, Power and Propulsion Group, ANU: Michael will be speaking about his research into Helicon Double Layer Thrusters.
     
  • Video Lunctimes, Selected Tuesdays 1-2pm: Come and enjoy a wide variety of aviation videos, from test flights to aerobatics and airshows. Everyone welcome, bring your lunch!
